International Handel Research Award 2023

In 2023, the Georg Friedrich Handel Society will award an International Research Prize for the sixth time to a young scholar who has distinguished himself/herself through outstanding research on the life and works of George Frideric Handel and has documented the results in a research paper. Research teams can also be awarded.

The Handel Research Prize is sponsored by the Saalesparkasse Foundation.

The prize is endowed with € 2,000.00 and includes a lecture by the prize winner at the scientific conference on the occasion of the Handel Festival in Halle (May 30-31, 2023).

Applications are open to graduates of musicology or related disciplines with their master’s, master’s, or doctoral thesis completed between 2020 and 2022, as well as scholars with equivalent research work. Excellent historical-critical editions may also be the subject of the award. The submitted papers can be written in German or English.

The informal application must be accompanied by the scientific paper (as a printout as well as in electronic form) and a short curriculum vitae including a description of the scientific career. Expert opinions can be submitted as well.

The deadline for entries is November 30, 2022 (postmark).

A jury appointed by the Saalesparkasse Foundation and the Georg Friedrich Handel Society will select the prize winner.

The Handel Research Prize will be awarded on the occasion of the Handel Festival 2023 during the scientific conference.
