The Georg-Friedrich-Händel-Gesellschaft was founded in 1955 as an international society to bring together Handel enthusiasts and scholars from across the globe, and currently resides in Handel’s city of birth, Halle.
A founding principal of the society is that it is also responsible for the Hallische Händel-Ausgabe, the new critical complete edition of Handel’s works, which has for several years provided reliable scores for performances of Handel’s music throughout the world, and forms the basis of research into Handel’s works. Individual volumes can be sponsored and the name of the sponsor is included in the volume.
The papers of the annual international Handel conference in Halle are published together with a bibliography of important recent works and reviews associated with Handel’s life in the Händel-Jahrbuch, which is issued annually at the time of the Händel-Festspiele.
The traditional ties with the city of Halle (Saale), the Stiftung Händel-Haus and the Händel-Festspiele are of vital importance to the Georg-Friedrich-Händel-Gesellschaft, which each year allow us to connect with Händel friends from all over the world.
