In accordance with the department of historical musicology at the MLU and the Handel House Foundation, the Presidium of the Handel Society has decided to cancel the conference “Handel’s Images: Iconography, Aesthetics, Compositional Practice”. The stricter pandemic regulations make it impossible to realize the event – especially in view of the high participation of foreign speakers. The papers will be published in the Handel Yearbook 2021, which is expected to be published at the end of May 2021.
In 2021 the organizers will make a new initiative to hold a Handel conference during the Handel Festival in Halle. The theme is “Redemption and Modern Age – Handel’s Messiah in the late 18th to 21st Century”. The date is May 31 to June 2, 2021; the International Handel Research Prize 2021 will be awarded during the conference. The conference will be planned in two ways from the outset, so that it will be held either as a presence or in video format.
